Geoff and the Messengers of Time

Chapter One

Geoff was wandering through the dark and misty forest of Bantam, after a long and hard day at work, trying to muster enough enthusiasm to get him through the coming few days. His great Aunt Wendola was coming to stay for the week and she smelt of boiled onions, well actually she was a nasty evil old woman with the heart of an ice cube but as this story begins during Christmas time lets try and be nice.

Anyway back to the story….

Geoff was walking along the damp trodden path back towards the car when he noticed a light in the distance. Now this was no ordinary light ... it was a blue and green shimmering light and it seemed to be getting closer. In fact it was speeding up and seemed to be jumping and running, jumping and running. Then it stopped, for a few seconds, then carried on at an even faster pace. It was at this point that Geoff had a dilemma on his hands - Run for his life or hide and see what it was? He stood there, thought about his great Aunt Wendola and decided that a crazy blue and green jumping light heading towards him at a great pace was in fact the better option.

He panicked, daunted by his uncharacteristically idiotic decision, looked for the nearest bush and darted towards it.

Unfortunately in his maddened rush he didn't notice the tree stump sticking out of the ground which he promptly tripped over, did a summersault, landed head first in the middle of the bush and knocked himself out on large stone.

He didn't know how long he was out for but it felt like hours. He untangled himself from the bush and sat up to assess the damage. His head was bruised as were other aching body parts. It was then that he noticed the blue and green jumping light had gone and had been replaced with a scruffy looking dog who was sat watching him very intently indeed. Geoff didn't make eye contact immediately as the pounding pain in his head was making him feel a little sick. Then all of a sudden what he thought was ringing in his ears stopped and replaced with little whispering. He looked around but couldn't see anyone, he looked at the dog and noticed it had done the same thing - looked around and then back at Geoff. This time Geoff almost fell backwards with alarm as the dog seemed to have a blue and green aura around it. Then a little head popped up from behind one of its ears and looked straight at Geoff. Then another, and then two at the same time and finally a fifth little person was sat on the back of the dog looking at Geoff. Now at this point Geoff was convinced that he had hit his head harder than first thought and that he was still half way between dream land and the land of the awake. Five little people with wings and dressed in shiny blue and green clothes were whispering to each other and pointing at Geoff and patting each other on their backs.

Geoff just sat there hoping that his head would sort itself out and the dog would in the end just be a normal, non Pixy carrying, non glowing dog. How wrong Geoff was is beyond belief. He wouldn't realise this however for another few hours yet.

Curiously though, hanging off the collar around the dogs neck was a tag, and on this tag was date. Just a date. No name or owner, just a date - and this date was 1809. Even stranger was that when Geoff had rubbed his head a few more times and the pain had started to subdue he noticed another thing. The dog was holding an envelope in its mouth, with the words "For Uncle Geoff" but with no address…
