There are:
59 days
to Christmas Day
Geoff staggered to his feet and brushed himself down then started to walk back to the car. He had a brilliant idea that if he ignored the dog and told himself that the last hour or so didn’t happen then it will be true and he will wake up tomorrow and it will have all been a very strange dream.
Unfortunately things weren’t quite going to plan. The dog was following and the Pixies were starting to get rather restless. All he could hear was "Is it really him?" and "He isn’t what I was expecting!".
This last phrase stirred a feeling of annoyance and resentment in Geoff beyond anything he had ever felt before. So much so in fact that he turned on the spot and addressed the Pixies directly for the very first time! No fear, no apprehension, just a distinct need to set the record straight.
"Yes this is me - Geoff Sainthill. The same Geoff that was happy with his boring and predictable life before you lot turned up! and if I’m not what you were expecting how do you know you have the right person?, there must be millions of Geoffs in this world so please feel free to go and find another one to confuse!".
All the whispering stopped immediately. The five Pixies sat there and gazed at Geoff in amazement. They weren’t used to being spoken to by the large folk and they really didn’t know how to react. They looked at each other as if seeking encouragement to talk back. "I don’t even know your names do I?." said Geoff. "You know mine and a lot more besides, so how about you start explaining what is going on here!?"
"Amelie, Boel, Tabba, Lia and Bob" they all said in harmony. Their voices were not what he was expecting. Geoff had thought they would be high pitched whiney tones but these were bordering on magical, which kinda fitted as they were Pixies.
"We have travelled an age with the help of our companion Alfie the Scruffy to find you." said Amelie. At this point Alfie the Scruffy plonked himself on his belly and started having a good scratch. Geoff said hello to the furry fiend who at once looked back and cocked his head to one side as if understanding every word being spoken. "Are you Ok?". Woof came back in response!
"This day is getting stranger and stranger". "Of course it is Geoff! How often do you meet a load of Pixies riding a Scruffy dog through a forest, ha!" mocked Tabba. "Fair point" replied Geoff, "So what now? You still haven’t told me what you want from me".
This time it was Boel’s turn to speak up - "Well, that’s the tricky part. We can’t actually tell you as we are just Messengers of Time. We know everything but can only say it at certain points and if we do not adhere to this then all hell can break loose!!. One thing we can say though is that you are the one we have been seeking and that your destiny is on par with characters in those books you are always reading".
"How the…"
"Geoff, you said it yourself, we know so much about you. You are just going to have to trust us".
At this point Bob gave Geoff two thumbs up and said "Right then...which way is North?"
